2024 INTERNATIONAL ITALIAN SUPERMOTO CHAMPIONSHIP: RD1 - ORTONA
Report:
We start with the 2024 Supermoto season with the first race of the Internazionali d’Italia, a great return to the championship for the World Champion rider Marc Schmidt who together with his team manager Ivan Lazzarini have decided to return to the national championship.
SM1 Pro – Marc Schmidt, returning from a stop due to the operation to fix some small problems last year, did not push himself in qualifying, trying to find the right feeling with his new TM 450, the German rider set the third time, Mitja Krasniqi set the ninth time, Patrick Pals was also in the race and used this race as training in view of the first round of the world championship and concluded with the 24th time. Schmidt is lightning on the first lap and immediately takes command of the operations, pointing out an excellent state of form which allowed him to take home the victory in the first heat of the season, a good performance for Krasniqi who finished in tenth place and Pals 17th. Race 2 another solo for the German who wants to demonstrate all his strength and with another perfect heat without any errors he won but without exaggerating so as not to make mistakes. Krasniqi improves his performance and is eighth at the finish line. Pals 18th
SM4 – The asphalt only race sees two drivers involved, Kevin Vandi and Emanuele Esposito, in qualifying Kevin gets a good fourth time and Emanuele sixth. In the first heat Vandi, who still has to refine his feeling with his new bike, tried not to make any mistakes but still showed off his aggressive riding which allowed him to finish 4th. Esposito who anticipated the start and then a crash took away his chance for a good race and he ended up 13th. In race 2 another good performance for Kevin who demonstrated that he was improving his speed on the track, managing to stay close to his rivals and finishing in fourth place again. Excellent performance for Emanuele who finished in a splendid sixth place.
SM3 – Matteo Andreotti on his debut with the 450 is immediately fast in the category dedicated to young riders, Matteo sets the best time. Andreotti immediately found himself at ease with his new Tm and with an incredible pace he defeated the competition and went on to win by a wide margin. Let’s remember that the SM3 races together with the SM5 with drivers with a lot of experience. In race 2 Matteo is even faster and more incisive and clears behind him and with a great double he takes home his first victory of the season.
Just a few days’ break and then we’re back on track for the first race of the Supermoto World Championship in Spain in Albaida.
Ivan Lazzarini Team Manager: “First race of the season and it couldn’t have gone better, Marc is returning to his best form and raced with intelligence and great speed, Mitja has grown a lot and you can see the results of the great work he is doing in SM4 Kevin is not 100% yet but we are working to find the right direction and get back to the front, good performance for Esposito. I am very happy for Andreotti who showed that in his first race with the 450 he is very fast, now we are preparing for the first round of the World Championship next week.”
