Report: Injury For Yago In Timed Session
The setting for this world championship test was the Intu Xanadú – Arroyomolinos track, not far from Madrid. The track, prepared very well, required great effort from all the competing riders.
The weekend began with Saturday qualifying which saw Yago finish 23rd fastest. In the afternoon the RAM Qualifying race took place which ended for him in 19th place after having always fought in that area of the rankings. Unfortunately, during the timed session Yago landed short from a triple and suffered a severe blow to his wrist which required medical intervention.
Due to this “inconvenience” he had to grit his teeth to race on Sunday but inevitably in both heats he had to drop the pace after a few laps. In race one he made an excellent start from the gate and on the first lap he was in ninth position. Then, after holding on for a couple of laps, he had to drop the pace, finishing the race in 23rd place.
In the second heat he stood out with another good start which saw him move to the edge of the top ten. Yago tried to resist the discomfort but a fall decreed the end of his GP.
Fortunately, no particular physical consequences but a lot of disappointment for a thumbs-down weekend, during which, however, rider and bike seemed very in tune and this bodes well for the rest of the season. In two weeks we return to Italy for the third act of this world championship, the Sardinian GP will take place in Riola Sardo.
YAGO MARTINEZ: “We are not very happy with this test. It’s also a shame about the blow to my wrist which limited me a bit. We had a good pace in the first minutes of the race but then we had to drop the pace. The season is very long and we will not stop until we have achieved our goals. Thanks to the team and all our supporters.”
